Named for the embankments that keep the Trinity River at bay, Levees is the storytelling vessel of Dallas musician Justin Mills. Backed by guitar and a unique approach to clawhammer banjo, Mills’ lyrics draw upon the myth of the American West and the relative drudgery of suburban life. Though his narratives don’t always follow his personal experiences, his songs are deeply emotional, which contributes to his honest and powerful live performances. Levees’ first started releasing music in early 2018 and is celebrating the release of a new album, Vultures, on August 9. Twelve original songs follow two runaways as they traverse the country.
