Eric Andersen – the subject of last year’s career-spanning compilation ‘The Essential Eric Andersen’ (Sony Legacy / Real Gone) – will launch a spring tour featuring Scarlet Rivera (violin, harmonies) and accompanied by Cheryl Prashker (drums, percussion).

Andersen’s songs have been covered by many artists, including Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, The Grateful Dead, John Denver, Rick Nelson, Gillian Welch, Pete Seeger, Fairport Convention, and Mary Chapin Carpenter. From the songwriting circles of 1960s Greenwich Village to recording in Nashville in the 1970s; from appearing on TV’s The Johnny Cash Show to living in the Chelsea Hotel with Patti Smith, Kris Kristofferson, Sam Shepard, and Leonard Cohen; from collaborating musically with Lou Reed, The Grateful Dead (on “Weather Report Suite”), Townes Van Zandt, and Rick Danko, Andersen’s work has always been at the center of the zeitgeist.

“The Songpoet,” a full-length documentary film on Andersen is expected to be premiered sometime later this year.

He will be joined by Scarlet Rivera, best known for appearing with Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue but who has also played with Dee Dee Bridgewater, David Johansen, Indigo Girls, and Keb’ Mo’, and Tracy Chapman. Cheryl Prashker will play djembe and percussion on the tour. Select shows will feature special guest appearances by Steve Addabbo (lead guitar) and Eric Lee (mandolin and violin).
